[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]

Movie lovers would recollect the movie “The Mistress of Spices” (2005) that starred Aishwarya Rai and won critical acclaim. The script was based on a novel of the same name by Chitra Banerjee Devakaruni, who is a renowned Indian author based in the US. The movie was about a clairvoyant woman Tilo who cures people using spices but she has to follow certain rules. The breaking of those rules would mean that she would lose her magical powers. The story idea was a creative expression at it’s best – something that is not easily found in the contemporary literary world. If spices can heal, why not flowers? Indian culture is known for using lemon, salt and chilies to ward off evil.

What is Flower Healing Therapy?

Flower healing therapy can help people reconnect with nature, their real self, happiness, and peace of mind. Flower therapies are considered equivalent to vibrational medicine like homeopathy and acupuncture. The underlying philosophy in these sciences is that every human being has life force energy within himself – this energy manifests itself in our bodies, minds, and spirits. When this life force is balanced, it gives power to the body to heal itself. Flower therapy is a supporting therapy that can improve your mental balance and keep you vibrant and glowing.

Blossoms are gathered at the height of bloom and floated in a crystal bowl of spring water. The bowl is kept in sunlight for a few hours. The energy of the flower now gets transmitted to the water which is then bottled and preserved to be digested in small quantities every day.

Flower therapy leads to positivity and balance. A British doctor called Dr. Edward Bach introduced flower remedies in the 1930s. Dr. Bach observed that his happier patients healed faster than those who had a negative approach. He prepared 38 different flower essences each representing a particular human emotion.

The essences are taken as below: 1/4th of the essence and balance boiled and cooled water topped up with apple cedar vinegar. Four drops of this potion are kept under the tongue four times a day.

Flower therapy in ancient India

When Lord Buddha was travelling, he suddenly fell ill. Some Jain priests were able to treat him successfully with nectar served on a lotus petal. In ancient India, flower therapy was called as “Pushpa Ayurveda”. This Ayurveda was developed by Jain priests who felt that this therapy was very close to the Jain principle of ahimsa. Flower therapy can be considered as an extension of “Pushpa Ayurveda”.

No religious festival in India is ever complete without flowers. It is believed that flowers are charged by the power of the deities themselves. Example – Red Hibiscus is offered for Lord Ganesha as well as Goddess Kali. Goddess Saraswathi, the goddess of learning, is often propitiated with white coloured flowers. So, it is believed that flowers have the power to heal. Shankapushpi or Hibiscus is even associated with strong memory power.

Indian women are known to decorate their hair with flowers of different kinds and sometimes it can help to pacify an angry spouse too..!

Benefits of Flower Therapy

  1. Flower therapy helps in elevating the mood of an individual.

  2. According to psychologists, the origin of most of the diseases can be attributed to the mind. If the mind is taken care of, the physical ailments can be gradually healed. Flower therapy is thus primarily used for the emotional and spiritual well being.

  3. Flower therapy deals with different problematic traits – low grasping power, fear of the unknown, anger, irritability, bed wetting problems in children, post delivery stress, hallucinations etc.

Does flower therapy have any side effects?

The therapy does not have any side effects and the medicines are available in the form of liquid or tablets. Even students who are stressed out or have to deal with a poor concentration in studies can avail the benefits of flower therapy. Flower therapy is administered after a psychological assessment and children, senior citizens and pregnant women can be safely treated with flower therapy. But one should not expect instant results. Results may take three to four weeks.

To sum up

Flower essence therapy uses flower essences to restore the balance between mind, body and spirit. If the balance is restored in the individual, he or she gains greater energy. With this energy, better choices can be made leading to greater satisfaction and confidence to deal with life’s challenges. As one adapts to flower therapy, there is a palpable increase in optimism and happiness.

Flower therapy can soothe our fears, assuage our anxieties and dilute our greed. The ability of flower therapy to bring about an extraordinary cure is fast gaining attention. India is a country that is rich in flora and fauna and we know where most flowers end up after their useful life. So, flower therapy is a wonderful way to leverage the beneficial effects of flowers that otherwise end up in the trash can.

Maybe it is time to give Flower therapy a serious thought!
